Surrogate - what dreams may come...

My first novel, Surrogate, was no fluke. As I slept one night, I dreamt one of the scenes, although I didn't know it at the time. I saw a young man and woman walking along together and talking. I saw their faces and their demeanor. I heard their conversation. When I awoke, I knew there was something special about this dream, and I knew that I could do something with this scene. It was the scene in which the entire novel that is Surrogate was written around.

The couple seemed so real to me in that dream, and when I began to write the characters, they all seemed so vivid - as if they had a life of their own. They became my children, and when one of them wept, I wept, and when one died, I grieved just as any mother would. I literally became bed-ridden with depression for two days when I had to kill off one of my beloved characters. I later found great solace in knowing that my readers grieved as much as I did.

Surrogate begins with the tale of best friends, Ana Elise Torres and Jaiden Knight. While these two gorgeous ladies have amazing careers, there seems to be something missing for Ana, and that something is love. She soon meets Xavier Ramirez and they become inseparable. Jaiden is wary of this tall, handsome stranger, and wishes that her friend would be more careful with her heart. Ana, on the other hand, wishes  Jaiden would let her guard down and finally find the man of her dreams. Tragedy soon strikes, bringing the two friends closer than they ever thought possible, and they soon discover that their hearts yearn for the same dream.

I took the time to really create these characters. I wanted to build strong, believable characters, whose strengths and weaknesses we can all relate to. I wanted them to have the same quirks and funny habits that we have, and for them to overcome tragedy and betrayal, just as we all must do. I wanted to make them endearing to the reader, and I believe I have accomplished that goal. They have become a part of me - like family, and I’m so happy to know that my readers feel the same way about them.
